Weekend report

It's been a long week. All 4 of us have been fighting off either a mild cold or fall allergies, we're not sure which. Not everyone, every day. It's just been moving through us. Such is the life in fall in East TN.

Trevor is enjoying school so far. Brett starts back Monday.

Football is taking all of our free time right now. Practice 2 hours a night Mon-Wed, we had a game in a monsoon Thursday night (lost to Catholic 14-7), and a game yesterday (lost 30-0).

Trevor got to play significant time in yesterday's game against their rival, CBFO Farragut.
Only problem is he spent a bit of that time as a defensive lineman, a position he doesn't practice and is undersized for. And the other team is bigger anyway. See #71 in this picture? He's as big as adults.
Well.....just GUESS who Trevor ended up rushing against most of the game.
Ironically, I had just been talking with him about when he can't go THROUGH a player, trying to be smarter and go AROUND the player by stunting or spinning.
But either way, it was a LONG day for him. Here he is being double teamed by TWO kids way bigger than him.
At the end of the game, he was totally spent.
The photo of the day had to be this one of Trevor, Jack (best friend, neighbor, and classmate), and two teammates after the game. It reminded me of how after the baseball games when I played for the Lake Lucina Youth Association Dodgers, we'd all go behind the main concession stand and play game after game of "cup ball". It was a baseball game using a crushed red wax Coke cup as the ball and we'd just use our hand as the bat. Silly I know but those were fun games.

First day of school

Chris, on the way to football practice: So how did you like your new teacher?

Trevor: I like her. She wears high heals and is a fashion lady.

I guess he's got standards.

Weekend Update

School starts back on Monday and the boys have been trying to milk out every last drop of summer from this past week. Every night there are 3 or 4 of Brett's gang here (Abbey, Eric, Colin, David, some of Abbey's friends). Sometimes we play games like Apple to Apples. Other times, I'm just feeding them all, usually after they've played beach volleyball at Concord Park.

Last night was the first night that we had no football practice and Trevor was bored so he made dinner, chicken piccata. I had to tell him what to do, but he made it all by himself. I laughed when he put on the hat that Abbey brought with some donuts earlier this week because he looked like a short order cook. I shouldn't laugh, he made me wear one too.

Scrimmage

Tonight the Minor Pee Wee Bulldogs scrimmaged the older Pee Wee Bulldogs. I swear I'll post something other than football soon but it seems like all we have done for the past two weeks is football 4 nights a week for 2 1/2 hours.

Trevor gets his first time on offense in a scrimmage. He is #59 (look for black pants) in the back field. This play is "16 Sweep". Here Coach Lee gives Trevor last minute instructions. His role is to pull right along with a stunting lineman and block anyone in the backfield, clearing a lane for the running back with the ball. While they made the block in the second picture, unfortunately the back fumbled the snap.Tonight was also the first time he played linebacker. He's been playing safety until now. Here he is pursuing a running back.He also got to carry the ball live for the first time tonight. This was a fake sweep right in which he comes off the weak side in a reverse sweep. Unfortunately, #40 from the Pee Wees came in unblocked and was waiting for Trevor.
Good thing Mom wasn't here to see the choke hold, ha ha.He did good for his first significant playing time in a real scrimmage and said it was his favorite practice so far.

Trevor's first scrimmage

Trevor got his first taste of a real scrimmage against the 12 year old Bearden Bulldogs tonight. That's him #59 coming in as safety.

Forgive the crappy cell phone picture.

Football

Tonight was the Bulldogs' first practice with pads. Most of these kids are in their 2nd year, but Trevor has hung in there with them. He hasn't even been complaining about the 2 & 1/2 hour practices 3 to 4 times a week.
